The five Cathar castles: Aguilar, Peyrepertuse, Queribus, Puilaurens, and Puivert, once formed the border with Aragon (Spain). Magnificent feats of engineering, these fortresses are candidates for the UNESCO World Heritage List of sites.
This adventure begins in a Mediterranean landscape dotted with olive groves and vineyards, eventually traversing its way to a pre-alpine climate with oak, pine, and spruce forests. Tours utilize e-mountain bikes to make the ascents more accessible to a variety of rider levels. Trails are primarily double-track.
Nightly accommodations vary, from gites and hotels in town, to rustic cabins in more remote locations. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included in your adventure, unless specifically noted, and meals emphasize local French cuisine that offers an immersive experience of the flavors and wines of the region.
