SAMPLE VIRTUAL SEMINAR

Overview

This virtual workshop provides a careful examination of this mysterious seventeen-year old peasant girl who in 1429 emerged from the marshes of Lorraine, France to challenge the patriarchal hierarchy of the medieval world and, in under two years, inspired a defeated monarch, united a country and led a beaten and dispirited army to victory over an enemy who had remained invincible for over eighty years. She then went on to be betrayed by the very king she had crowned, and to suffer imprisonment and torture at the hands of her enemies and the Roman Church. Finally, in the Old Market Place of Rouen, she died engulfed in the flames of the stake, crying in a loud voice for forgiveness for her enemies from the One who had sent her. During this workshop, we will trace the extraordinary career of the young female warrior saint who dared to cry "Freedom" in a world made dark and terrible by war, greed, corruption, and tyranny; Who changed the course of world history in two short years, and left a legacy that has come to represent the archetypal image of female heroism and the dignity of the human spirit.

Known as Jeanne d'Arc, Jehanne La Pucelle, or simply La Pucelle, who was she?

  • We will be in some rural areas, and there are shops and cafés that only take cash, so it is important to have euros with you when you travel. Generally speaking, €300 - €500 should be fine for the tour, but you can plan your cash amount based on your personal spending plans while you travel. We have found it simplest to purchase euros from your bank prior to traveling to Europe. Another option is retrieving cash from an ATM at the airport when you arrive in France, which gives you the best exchange rate on that day. Tip: Make sure you are aware of your bank’s fees for international withdrawals, as well as other credit card usage fees.
